The National Defence Fund has given large sums from its own revenues for the purchase of areas to cover the needs of the Army, such as the building of Officers’ and NCOs’ Barracks, the housing of conscription offices and of various other agencies of the Ministry.

The purchase of a historic building in 1997 named TOPSIN near the Gefyra village, 20 kilometres west of Thessaloniki, with the purpose of creating a Balkan Wars Museum, is indicative.

This location has been declared a historical place under the 14938/1972 Decision of the Ministry of Culture, because it was the place where in 1912 the surrender of Thessaloniki was signed by Taxin Pasha to the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Army at the time, Prince Constantine Heir to the Throne.
